[ 國中英文 ] another 與 the other 都有另一個的意思. 可當代名詞(pronoun). 也可以當形容詞(adj).
A). another與 the other當代名詞(pronoun)
other 是單數, 加定冠詞the other為定冠詞的另一個 .; another的 an是(不定冠詞), another為不定的另一個.;
others 是複數.; the others 也是複數,指定的其它的.

例1. I have two sisters. One is living in Taiwan, and the other is in Japan.

( II). 三台車.: 第一台one ;另一台(為不定的另一個)用 another ;最後一台 the other.; 其中中間的會用到 another .
例1: I have three watches, one is black, another is yellow, and the other is white.
I have four watches, one is black, another is yellow, another is red , and the other is white.
例2:I have three watches, two of them are old, the other is new.
(我有三個手錶,二個是舊的,一個是新的。(other是代名詞)。)
I have three cellphones , one of them is old , the others are new.
(我有三支手機, 一個是舊的,二個是新的)
One of the students is absent, and the others are all here.
一位學生缺席,其他的學生都在這裡。
B). another 與 other 也可當 形容詞(adj.)
I). This pen doesn't write well. Give me another one. ( another one 另一支筆 )
這支筆不好用,給我另外一支。( another 當形容詞(adj.); another pen 不指定的另一個 )
例1. This bag is leaking, please give me another one.
II). There is no other way to escape.
沒有其他的方法可以逃走。(other是形容詞)。
進階級( Advanced Class )
1. each other (兩個)互相..John and Jane took care of their baby each other.
2. one after another (多個)一個接著一個接下去. 例: They went into the classroom one after another.
The little girl was confused as the police asked her one question after another.
3. one after the other 一個接下一個(兩個)
